Zoning and land use cases ... code enforcement violations ... City of Dallas bond projects ... public education ... decades of environmental and economic development neglect ... city and statewide referenda ... all of these issues provide advocacy opportunities to re-imagine West Dallas.

The development of the Trinity River Corridor Project and our diverse and stable residential communities provide the motivation.

The scrappy character of business and community change agents sets the tone.

Here are some advocacy opportunities we are currently following. Join the West Dallas Chamber and help re-engineer the future.

Date Issue Information Status
12.15.09 Zoning change application Z090-124 application seeks to convert a vacant 12-acre tract at 4223 Singleton into a salvage yard; parcel located at Mapsco 42R 43J 43N; parcel adjacent to large tract planned for sustainable development with parks and residential component; located in District 6, Councilman Steve Salazar, Plan Commissioner John Lozano; city planner assigned to case is Richard Brown. West Dallas Chamber board members have indicated opposition.
01.04.10 City of Dallas Ethics Ordinance Under new guidelines with the City of Dallas, the paid staff of local chambers of commerce (the West Dallas Chamber has no staff) must follow the same reporting requirements as non-volunteer-driven law firms and professional land use lobbyists. Other non-profits organizations are exempt by chambers are being held to a different standard.

Currently being reviewed by Dallas City Council
01.28.10 Special Use Permit Application Reliable Ready Mix on West Commerce has requested a special use permit — SUP Z089-260 (MAW) — for a "not potentially incompatible" industrial use. The Chamber is concerned about the historical condition and upkeep of the applicant’s property and the manner in which they have conducted their operations in the past. The Chamber also has concerns that this type of use is not in furtherance of our mission. The West Dallas Chamber has asked that a Feb. 4 hearing be postponed until we have had an opportunity to meet with the applicant.
